My Take
These are two excellent golf practice nets and whether you choose the Rukket Haack or Spornia SPG-5 you will be getting an excellent training tool that will definitely help you develop your ideal, repeatable golf swing. Now I know a lot comes down to budget and personal preference, but I have to say that I preferred the Spornia SPG-5 Practice Net by FAR – even though it is a little bit more expensive.
I bought, both, the Rukket Haack and Spornia SPG-5 for this comparison article and there were a lot of positive similarities between both of these golf training nets. The Rukket Haack Practice Net is lightweight and easy to assemble. Instructions were clear, however I would have preferred slightly better markings on the pole assembly to determine which end goes where a little quicker.
Both golf practice nets accomplished their goal of providing a training aid that enabled me to practice my golf swing, indoors or outside. Any tool that helps me improve at golf is a winner in my book, but let’s talk about WHY I think the Spornia SPG-5 is a superior all-around practice net.
First off, the Spornia SPG-5 just has that heavy-duty construction and solid look to it that instilled a lot of confidence when crushing drives straight into it. Starting with the photos above, it’s clear which net is constructed better. In addition, the SPG-5 was easier to assemble (for me), the ball return feature was more reliable and the extra weight and long base made it withstand high winds better when practicing outside.
Now I know that there is a small price difference between these two practice nets, but the added features of the SPG-5 make it a much better buy for (a little) extra money.
I’ll discuss some of the other differences below.
Major Differences Between the Rukket Haack and Spornia SPG-5 Golf Practice Nets
For your convenience, I have highlighted the differences between these two practice nets in the comparison chart above, but I wanted to provide more details about why I liked the SPG-5 better, here.
Let’s first discuss the biggest difference between these two golf practice nets – and that is the price. The last time I checked, the SPG-5 was anywhere from forty to fifty dollars more than the Rukket Haack. You can check the current prices of these golf practice nets on Amazon here.
Now that that’s out of the way, here are some of the main differences that highlight why I like the Spornia net better. The first is the durable construction of the impact target material. It is heavy-duty. The result is a nice loud thud at impact that is pleasing to my ear. When I hit a crushing drive into the Spornia SPG-5 it SOUNDED like I hit a crushing drive. The impact sound when hitting into the nylon net of the Rukket Haack Net was non-existent, which could actually be a positive feature for anyone who wants a quieter practice session for indoor practice.
The SPG-5 also provided a large impact target for aiming, as well as parallel white visual sight lines that helped align each and every shot I took. I really liked these features and thought that they contributed towards commanding a higher price point.
In addition, the ball return feature of the Spornia SPG-5 was – in my opinion – quite superior to that of the Rukket Haack net. This was due, in part, to the angled base of the SPG-5 that allowed for a consistent and repeatable roll back feature with each and every shot.
I also found the SPG-5 easier to assemble and breakdown, although both golf practice nets were pretty successful in this area.
One advantage (or disadvantage) of the SPG-5 – depending on how you look at it – is that the large base, which serves as the ball return and alignment feature – forces you to stand farther away from the SPG-5. However, this was not a huge deal for me, but may be for someone who hits more errant shots. On the other had, while I was able to stand closer to the the Rukket Haack net, it didn’t have the side-wings available on the SPG-5 for catching errant shots.
Both golf practice nets achieve their goal of helping beginning golfers practice their swings inside or outside in a small or confined area, but one of them clearly justified the increased price.
Conclusion
When I first started researching the most popular golf practice nets for indoor or outdoor swing training, I was surprised that there weren’t many different options available. As a result, it was easy to narrow down my list to two of the most popular ones available in stores or online.
The number of positive reviews of both the Rukket Haack and Spornia SPG-5 convinced me that these were the two golf practice nets I just had to compare in this review, but also lead me to believe that I would have difficulty choosing one over the other. Now, in all fairness, if you are on a tight budget, the Rukket Haack is an excellent swing training net and is also the less expensive alternative.
I know there is a lot of personal preference when writing this type of review, but I was somewhat surprised to discover that I liked the Spornia SPG-5 so much more. Perhaps it’s because of the type of practice I prefer (mostly outdoors) and the one feature I just HAD TO HAVE in a golf practice net: AN EXCELLENT AND CONSISTENT BALL RETURN.
What it really came down to, for me, was that I was actively looking for a golf practice net to improve my golf swing whether practicing indoors or outside – and while the Rukket Haack Practice Net definitely accomplished this goal, the Spornia SPG-5 just had the additional features and benefits that – for me – justified the slightly higher price point.
I felt very comfortable smashing my drives into the SPG-5 and I really liked the excellent and consistent ball return feature.
Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. If you do more of your swing practice indoors and like a quiet golf practice net that you can stand close to and don’t want to spend the extra money, perhaps the Rukket Haack is for you.
However, after extended use, I have to say that the clear winner for me was the Spornia SPG-5 Golf Practice Net. It had the features I was looking for in a well-built and very durable unit. It was easy to set-up and break down. It provided a comforting thud each time I smashed a drive into it’s big white target. It’s alignment lines provided excellent visual cues for setting up each shot and the ball return was consistent.
While both of these practice nets delivered what they promised, I felt that I achieved a better practice swing session with the SPG-5. So, while I think that the Rukket Haack golf net is an excellent training device for practicing your golf swing, if you want to buy the best golf practice net on the market, pay the extra money and just get the Spornia SPG-5 – you won’t be disappointed!
