Many beginning to intermediate level golfers have difficulty hitting straight tee shots, consistently. One of the most common reasons these golfers have trouble is because there is something they are doing during their swing that causes them to slice the golf ball.
If you suffer from the dreaded slice and have already tried correcting your golf slice using my golf slice practice drills, but still need more help – you’ve come to the right place! Golf technology has advanced so much in recent years that many of today’s drivers can also help you hit straighter golf shots.
So if you’ve tried everything else and have arrived here looking for the list of drivers that are the best at fixing a slice, that list of clubs is summarized in the table below.
If you’re interested in what makes a driver a slice correcting driver, please continue reading down below.
5 Best Drivers for Fixing A Golf Slice (Beginners to Intermediate Golfers)
BEST SLICE CORRECTING DRIVER: TaylorMade M4 – Best Club Face Design
The new TaylorMade M4 Driver utilizes something called Twist Face Technology whereby the face curvature is exaggerated in the low heel and high toe areas. Through extensive data research, the scientists at TaylorMade realized that most non-professionals tend to hit the golf ball low in the heel or high in the toe on their off-center hits.
Golfers who slice the golf ball tend to have more off-center hits in the heel area of the club face. To counteract this type of mis-hit that is common among slicers of the golf ball, TaylorMade has de-lofted the heel area of the face to reduce spin and altered the face curvature towards the heel to PREVENT the ball from going high and to the right (i.e. slicing).
The face makes the M4 extremely forgiving. In addition to helping to fix a golf slice, this new face design also helps golfers who miss the sweet spot and end up hitting the high-toe area. These golfers tend to hook the ball.
The TaylorMade M4 Driver has a new Hammerhead slot directly behind the face that helps to reinforce the club while allowing the face to be even thinner (than its predecessor, the M2). This design enhancement also helps to reduce the overall weight of the club.
If you’ve read my review article on the easiest to hit drivers you may have noticed that the M4 came in 3rd place in that category. The reason I didn’t rate it #1 in that review is because I thought that when setting up for my tee shots the top of the club head and the slight bulge of the face made it a little tougher to line up the sweet spot perfectly – maybe it’s just my vision! Either way there is no denying that this is the best driver at fixing a slice, hence it’s 5.0/5.0.
RUNNER-UP: Cobra King F7 Driver – Hi-Tech with Ultimate Adjustability
For the golfer who likes to adjust their driver’s Center-of-Gravity (CG), the Cobra King F7 allows the user to adjust three different weighted areas to tweak the club’s weighting in order to produce the desired ball flight.
This driver also comes with Cobra Connect built directly into the grip. This technology is essentially a group of sensors that transmit information to a shot tracking cell phone app that is run by software called Arccos. This is a hi-tech golf club that provides instant feedback through technology.
This software can help provide recommendations to help you correct any swing flaws and the hosel is adjustable to help minimize an open clubface at impact – one of the main causes of the slice.
This driver is extremely forgiving and is almost like having three drivers in one with it’s three separate adjustable CG weightings. As a result of it’s extreme adjustability and technological integration this is one of a new class of ‘SMART DRIVERS’ that can help the golfer who uses it understand why he may slicing the golf ball and what to do to fix it.
THIRD PLACE: Callaway Rogue 2018 – Most Beautiful Design in a Slice Correcting Driver
The Callaway Rogue Driver is another club from the Class of 2018 that has features that can help fix a golf slice built right into the club.
This driver was designed with all the features that make a driver forgiving and adept at correcting common swing flaws. The Callaway Rogue has a large sweet spot in a 460cc oversized club head, a very high Moment of Inertia (MOI), which is a golf club’s resistance to twisting and is built in an ultralight package.
Drivers with higher MOIs are generally considered more forgiving and this includes having the capability of fixing off-center hits that can often result in undesirable ball flights like slices and hooks.
The Callaway Rogue is an ultralight club with titanium (a very light, very strong material) bars inside the head right behind the clubface that provide extra support while allowing the face to be even thinner than in previous models. The extra thin face helps increase ball speed for greater distances.
FOURTH PLACE: Ping G400 SFT Driver – Coolest Sounding Slice Fixing Driver
The G400 driver from Ping is an excellent club for golfers who tend to slice the golf ball. The clubface is very forgiving and it is also a great club for beginners. Although the club head is smaller than the other drivers on this list – at only 445cc, it’s possible to hit the golf ball with almost any part of the club face of the G400 and still get a decent shot.
The face of the Ping G400 is made of a a titanium composite that contributes to additional flex and enhances ball speed. The Ping G400 is back weighted, which gives it a deep Center-of-Gravity (CG) and this driver is another club with a high MOI.
The deep Center of Gravity and high Moment of Inertia work together to provide incredible forgiveness and slice correction on the majority of off-center hits.
The Ping G400 Driver has a thinner crown than it’s predecessor and something called Dragonfly Technology, which is said to give the G400 an improved aerodynamic feel throughout the golf swing. Check out the current price of the Ping G400 of Amazon.com.
FIFTH PLACE: Cleveland Launcher HB Driver – Best Slice Correcting Driver For The Money
The coolest thing about the Launcher HB driver from Cleveland Golf is the fact that it is beautiful in its simplicity. For slightly older golfers (like myself) who don’t really like to spend a lot of our free time adjusting weights, lofts, or other aspects of our golf clubs this club is awesome!
There are no moveable weights and the HB Launcher Driver has a NON-ADJUSTABLE HOSEL. However, this club is available in 9, 10.5, and 12 degree lofts on Amazon.
Beginners and golfers with slower swing speeds should generally choose clubs with higher lofts. The 10.5 or 12 degree set-ups are good choices for beginners or seniors, while more experienced golfers can get away with the 9 degree loft.
Cleveland golf thought a lot about what features make a driver good at fixing a slice and built a club with these features already built in. The Launcher HB Driver is a great club that does not require any adjusting. Pick your shaft flex. pick your loft and fix your slice!
What makes a driver effective at fixing a slice?
Most slice correcting drivers fall into one of two categories: Adjustable (clubs that let you adjust their weighting to counteract the open club face at impact – the main cause of the golf slice) and Modified Design (clubs that have some type of design modification built into the club that also ‘help’ reduce the negative effects of off-center hits).
Adjustable Drivers that Help Fix A Golf Slice
The drivers that fall into this category are any of the drivers that allow the golfer to make adjustments. These adjustments can be weight adjustments, hosel adjustments, loft adjustments. In general, these ‘settings’ can help shape ball flight, change the Center of Gravity, or otherwise ‘help’ the club face to return to a more square position at impact.
The adjustable drivers from the list above are…
CALLAWAY ROGUE DRIVER of 2018
This driver won BeginnerGolfSwingTips.com Best In Show Award for the Easiest to Hit Driver for High Handicappers. This club has a patented Optilift hosel that allows the golfer to adjust the loft of the club in order to close the clubface by one degree, which can help fix a slice.
COBRA KING F7 with Cobra Connect
Another excellent adjustable slice-correcting driver, the Cobra King F7 allows the golfer to adjust the Center-of-Gravity through three separate CG settings in the front, back and heel positions.
This club also comes complete with MYFLY8 with SMARTPAD-8 that allows the golfer to to easily adjust loft settings to manage trajectory and an adjustable hosel to help minimize an open clubface at impact – one of the main causes of the slice. Check the most recent price of the F7 on Amazon.
Ping G400 SFT Driver
The Ping G400 driver has a low, deep Center of Gravity and high Moment of Inertia that work in combination to provide incredible forgiveness and slice correction in an awesome looking – and sounding – driver
This club is well-suited to golfers who tend to slice the golf ball. The clubface is very forgiving and even though the head is only 445cc’s, it’s possible to hit the golf ball with almost any part of the club face and still produce a decent shot with the G400. How much does all this awesomeness cost? Check out the price on Amazon.
Modified Design Drivers that Help Fix A Slice
The drivers that fall into this category are those clubs that have a unique design feature built into the club by the manufacturer. These drivers can also be adjustable, but the main aspect of these clubs is that they’ve had some design enhancement made to the club.
TAYLORMADE M4 Driver
The M4 Driver from TaylorMade incorporates TwistFace (TM) technology – a re-design to the face of the club in which the face of the club has been curved so that high toe, low-heel hits are partially corrected by the face angle.
An amazing effect of this new face design is that the curvature of the face also reduces side spin (a major cause of the golf slice) and delivers straighter shots.
The M4 Driver from TaylorMade also has an adjustable loft feature, as well as an adjustable weighting feature, so this driver has twice the slice-correcting features as the other drivers on our list. Check out even more features of this club on Amazon.
Cleveland Launcher HB Driver
The Launcher HB Driver is an excellent club for helping golfers who slice the golf ball hit straighter shots. Unlike some of the other clubs on this list, the HB Driver is NON-ADJUSTABLE. But this doesn’t mean it doesn’t have awesome features.
This club has three available lofts to choose from: 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees and varying shaft flexes. Check the most recent price of the Cleveland Launcher HB Driver on Amazon.
How Do These Drivers Help Fix Your Slice?
While these drivers won’t automatically make you an amazing golfer, they ALL have some features that can help you get the clubface squarely on the golf ball, which is necessary to avoid a slice.
These clubs are not magic – they don’t eliminate the need to practice your swing nor do they enable you to hit perfect shot after perfect shot.
But a slice-correcting driver is a club that helps me swing the club in a way that minimizes the chances that I will slice the golf ball.
I classify a driver as being good at helping to hit straighter shots if it meets the following criteria:
- Has design features to the club face that minimizes side-spin on off-enter hits (e.g.TaylorMade M4 Driver)
- Allows the golfer to adjust Center-of-Gravity to help shape shots (e.g. Cobra King F7)
- Has aerodynamic design in an ultralight club (e.g. Callaway Rogue)
The factors that make all three qualities above possible are exactly what I look for when evaluating the drivers that are the best at fixing a slice.
Please understand that the reason I go into such detail above is so that you don’t have to just rely on what drivers this website or any other golf website tells you to buy, but so that you understand how to evaluate these clubs yourself to make the most informed buying decision you can.
So there you have it: The 5 Best Drivers for Fixing A Slice. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed reading my recommendations of some of these really cool new golf clubs. The innovations in technology and design keep getting better every year and that makes the game we all love even more enjoyable. Have you tried any of these clubs? Let me know in the comments below!
