The Precision Pro NX7 Laser Golf Rangefinder solves a common problem that some of the older range-finders had, which was not accurately adapting to targets that were uphill or downhill from their user. The Pro NX7 comes with ADAPTIVE SLOPE TECHNOLOGY that accounts for this and provides ‘play as’ distances whether the target is up or downhill. The slope feature can be turned off for competition. Bushnell’s Pro X2 Golf Rangefinder is an extremely durable, user-friendly golf rangefinder with the cool added feature of being able to switch the slope on or off (Slope Switch Technology). The X2 provides extremely accurate distances and is incredibly easy for a beginner to use (even if they have never used a golf rangefinder before). Another cool feature is that the X2 allows the user to toggle the display color.

My Take

If I had only a few words to describe the differences between the NX7 and X2 it would be that the Precision Pro NX7 is young, stylish, and hip. It felt like the kind of tool a golfer like Rickie Fowler would use. With its bright neon green casing, lightweight design and ease of use, I felt ‘cool’ when using it.

The NX7 PRO model comes with ADAPTIVE SLOPE TECHNOLOGY that takes into account any elevation changes when getting the distance to the pin. The optics of the NX7 were very good, too. However when holding it, it did not feel quite as solid as the X2 from Bushnell.

The Bushnell Pro X2, on the other hand, felt a little more solid, subdued, and sophisticated. It felt more like the type of rangefinder a golfer like Henrik Stenson would use. It felt more….precise. It’s metal body had a little bit of weight to it and its rubberized grip was very comfortable to hold.

The X2 has a simple switch towards the front that enables the slope to be switched on or off (Slope Switch).

The optics of the X2 were a touch clearer, locking onto the target was a touch quicker, and I felt like the distances were slightly more accurate (or maybe I was just hitting my irons a little better the day I tested the X2!)

Both units have a built-in vibration feature that alerts the user once the device is locked onto the target. The NX7 calls theirs Pulse Vibration, while the Bushnell calls this feature their JOLT technology.

Either way this is a nice feedback feature to have on your golf rangefinder.

I preferred the speed of Bushnell’s JOLT vibration. The X2 locked onto targets very fast and the vibration feedback was almost immediate – letting me know that the X2 had located and locked onto the pin.

Conclusion

When I first started researching the best laser golf rangefinders for this review, I expected that Bushnell would be one of the companies that made the list. With a long history of producing outdoor gear for hunters and sportsmen, Bushnell already had a popular line of rangefinders for golfers, including the Tour V3 and V4 models that both preceded the X2.

But I was somewhat surprised to discover that the other top rangefinder choice was from a company – Precision – that did not have the same history of manufacturing these types of devices.

The fact that the Precision Pro NX7 and the Bushnell Pro X2 were the two rangefinders that seemed to share some of the most desirable (and similar) features told me that, for many consumers, the choice of which laser golf rangefinder to buy would probably come down to these two units and that I should do a comparison of these to help you decide which one to buy.

One glaring difference between the NX7 Pro and X2 is the price. If money were no object I would recommend the Bushnell Pro X2 because it was just a little bit better in all areas – optics, accuracy, feel, durability – but the fact that it is this much more than the NX7 creates a compelling reason for the budget-conscious golfer to maybe save a little money and get a rangefinder that is almost as good.

Winner: Bushnell Pro X2

Happy Golfing!
